How the Anti-Jibe Boom Preventer works.

Anti-Jibe System is nice and clean.  Tucked up against the Mast and Boom and sheet are lead back to the cockpit.

With the Port Anti-Jibe Sheet engaged, the slider is against the end stop, the Port Anti-Jibe Sheet from the silder to the Fairlead creates an angle therefore creating mechanical advantage over the boom.

This is a description of the Anti-Jibe
system.

  • Sheets run from the sliders, parallel to the boom to a custom fairlead.
  • The sheets run down the vertical plain of the mast to a Flip Flop block, Mast Base Block or Fairlead to the Deck of the boat. (Depending on your preference any of these will work.)
  • From here it is up to you how you would like to run the sheets. Each sheet could be run to either side of the cockpit or both the sheets could be run to the Port or starboard side of cockpit.

When on a downwind run or quarter breeze the Boom is rotated out because the wind is coming over or across the stern.

This can be preformed Port or Starboard. This representation will be described with the boom over the Starbord Side.

  • The boom can rotate freely from Port to Starboard, the Anti-Jibe Sliders are tensioned at all times taking up the slack as the boom rotates from side to side.
  • The sheets do not move continuously through the system unless the Anti-Jibe is activated, so that's why the shock cords are needed.
  • By pulling the Starboard sheet with the green halyard stop a few inches , the Anti-Jibe is activated. The boom is locked into place by the traveler pressed up againist the end stop.  When the traveler is against the end stop, the sheet from the traveler to the fairlead creates an angle and therefore gaining mechanical advantage over the boom.
  • The Anti-Jibe will prevent the boom from an Accidental Jibe due to the wind changing.
  • The Anti-Jibe can work 2 ways.
    • With a tightened boom vang the Anti-Jibe works like a normal preventer.
    • With the boom vang loosened or free the boom has the ability to float upwards. As the boom rises the leech curls allowing the winds to be washed over the sail and prevent sudden adverse heeling. When the condition is righted the boom drops and  returns to the locked position.
  • When wanting to return to a broad reach or close haul, simply open the rope clutch on the Port Anti-Jibe sheet  and a way you go.
  • Anti-Jibe has been designed to withstand changing winds up to 20 Knots..
